What does DEGRADABLE actually mean?

With regards to plastics used such as in bin bags, this means the loss of the chemical properties of the plastic thereby weakening it and causing it to breakup into small pieces. This is caused by the natural process of oxidation. Normal plastic would take years to breakdown but once EPI’s TDPA is added to the resin of the plastic, which is known as a ‘prodegradant’ the process of the breakdown of the plastic is rapidly accelerated to months. What is important for this process to work, is that the plastic must be exposed to the elements such as heat, UV light and mechanical stress.  Source: EPI-Global
